Diane has been painting on black velvet since 2007 inspired by the 'Master of Black Velvet Painting', Leeteg of Tahiti and the kitschy velvets from Mexico during the '60's & the '70's. All her work is original and hand-painted. In 2008, she was lucky enough to make a pilgrimage to the Mecca of black velvet paintings, The Velveteria in Portland, Oregon (before they closed their doors in 2010), and it was truly a revelation for her. She is now working out of Southbound Studios where her creativity is constantly being recharged by the other artists in residence.
